Project Kickoff
Before starting the project we wanted to understand stakeholders expectations
-
What and why we are trying to achieve for the business and on what timeframe?
-
What are the expectations regarding look and feel, functionality, and target audience.
-
What problems are existing users facing? Have they done any research?
-
What all things we can change?
-
What will define success?

Due to our remote work setup in 2021, the majority of our processes took place online. Additionally, since our clients were based in the US, conducting offline interviews was not feasible.
Key Takeaways from stakeholder interviews
In order to enhance its presence in the United States and Canada, Herc Rental has procured several rental companies in the past year. As a result, they aimed to revitalize their existing design with a new visual update.
Additionally, they sought to introduce an innovative fleet management technology that would revolutionize the method by which users oversee their equipment.
Problem Statement
The existing methods of equipment rental management were causing significant hurdles for businesses. Cumbersome processes for account management, rental requests, and reservations were hampering productivity and responsiveness. Real-time updates, cost monitoring, and secure equipment access have become elusive goals, resulting in operational inefficiencies and safety concerns on job sites.
Procurement analysts were struggling with invoice management, while project managers struggled to coordinate without timely equipment insights. Herc Rental was looking for a modern solution to streamline these processes, granting businesses the ability to enhance efficiency, safety, and control.
Solution
The solution was to introduce "ProControl NextGen".
It will be a new tool that's like a breath of fresh air for equipment management. It helps you know what's happening right away, watch the costs, and make sure only the right people use the gear. With ProControl NextGen, we're trying to make renting equipment super easy and safe, moving the whole renting industry towards a more comfortable and productive future.
Design Phase 1
User Research
Since we already had some quantitative data provided by Herc Rentals business analytic team, we decided to collect some qualitative data for which we conducted user interviews, A senior designer and me were leading the interview while other junior designer's (observer and note taker) and a project manager were shadowing it
Instead of a typical Q&A we kept the questions open ended and prepared only 8 to 10 questions, because we did not wanted a interview to be a list of questions but rather a list of topics which we wanted to explore with our respondents.
And for this we used ZOOm
